In 1956 a young immigrant from the Greek Island of Chios, located in the Aegean Sea,
joined the Merchant Marines to travel the world. This young man traveled to America,
where he jumped ship in Texas. There he began his life in the United States.
The young man left Texas and worked his way up north to meet his uncle. He made it to
New York and began his career in the restaurant business as a dishwasher. In 1958 this
immigrant worked his way up to become a line cook in a diner. During this time he worked
his way into the heart of a Greek-American girl. They wed and started their family in 1961.
He also became a U.S. citizen.
Through the years he worked in diners learning the business of running a restaurant, and
in 1965 he became a chef. He brought many Greek inspired dishes and ingredients into
these diners and perfected his cooking skills.
Then in 1980 that young immigrant from the Island of Chios, Milton Steliaros, opened up
his very own restaurant, the Greek Village. Using only the finest ingredients and best
produce, Milton brought the best of his Greek heritage to the heart of Commack. Shortly
after opening his doors, Milton’s Famous Greek Salad Dressing hit the tables, becoming a
huge success, keeping the customers coming back for more. The salad dressing became so
popular, Milton began selling bottles at the front counter so his customers could enjoy it
at home with his famous Greek salads.
In 1994 the Greek Village became a father-son partnership when Milton’s son, Aristides,
followed in his father’s footsteps and became a partner in the Greek Village. A partnership
that proved a great success. Milton & Aris doubled the size of the restaurant in 1998. They
renovated and the new Greek Village opened its’ doors in January 1998 with a larger
restaurant, more extensive menu and a party room. Keeping in Commack the best of
Milton’s Greek Heritage. The Steliaros family would like to thank all of their customers for
all these years of patronage and for making the Greek Village Restaurant the number one
authentic Greek restaurant on Long Island. So sit back, relax and enjoy your meal. |
